The writing process of a podcast episode

The beginning of the writing process is to outline the plot. The outline contains the main points. They are how to complete a task, why the moderator should complete a task, benefits, questions, tips, and things that should not be done. I put forward the summary points related to each point. After the main points, there are examples. Examples are not in the outline. They are in my mind. The example is not written down because the example may change.

The goal of any theme is to provide a 360-degree view of the theme. Show the audience every angle of a topic. When hearing all aspects of a topic, the host can make an informed decision.

This episode starts with “how to”. Where do I explain the theme settings. I mentioned how to participate in a topic. For example, I made a series about live broadcasting. In “How to”, topics covered include streaming media platforms, equipment, and software. The audience can make changes based on my information. The operating method section provides listeners with my research on the subject.

The audience needs to know why the task is to be completed. This part is sometimes called benefits. In this section, I give the reasons for adding tasks to the host workflow. The listener will know how the task is different from other methods. How the topic helped them or their podcast. For live broadcasting, one advantage is that it attracts new audiences.

The audience now has the settings and benefits. For the 360-degree view, the audience needs to understand the problem or shortcoming. For streaming media, the problem is that there is no podcast category. The disadvantage is the other side of the 360-degree view. The benefits are only one aspect of the theme.

The host needs to know what they should not do. These actions are actions I tried but didn’t work. And the behavior I read doesn’t work for other people. In some cases, these points are related to ethics, for example, adding random categories to the stream. Viewers in this category will try to ban the host’s account.

The last step of writing is technique. Tips are general suggestions. Tips may improve the listener’s experience. If the audience does not make any prompts, they can still stream. One tip for streaming is to “make sure there is nothing embarrassing in the background”. The background does not prevent the host from streaming.

Showing all aspects allows readers to make an informed decision on the subject. With all the information, readers can decide whether the topic is suitable for them. Tips do not apply anywhere else in this process. These tips are not required, but they will bring a better experience.

How to build a podcast episode

In the writing process, every point has a structure. The structure is Statement, Why, Example. I make a statement, give my reasons, and then the evidence behind my claim. For example, I said one reason for streaming is to make podcasts appear in front of new audiences. During the live broadcast, I talked to the audience who followed me on Twitter. My statement is that the host should stream. why? Streaming media has increased the host’s audience. example? The audience followed me on Twitter.

How do I find new podcast plot ideas

Every week I need to find a topic to write about. These are some ways to help me think about the topic I want to write about.

My podcast is about my work, from programming to creating content. Sometimes I get ideas about episodes when I work. One episode of the work is the Vanilla JavaScript dark mode set.

work out

Exercise helps people think better. I used to walk a mile to and from get off work. As I walked, random thoughts about plot ideas suddenly popped into my mind. The episode I thought of when I was walking was the episode “Community Growth”.

I spend my time on Twitter and Telegram. During this time, I saw a lot of conversations. Sometimes I will read a post or topic to give me an idea about an episode. This episode of Dogs and Web Dev comes from someone who said they would click on anything related to dogs. I want to test it to see if other people feel the same way.

I have a lot of conversations with the open podcast community. Sometimes community members will say something that will give me an idea about the episode. The episode about my cover art was the result of community members requesting feedback on their cover art.

Sometimes, something happens in my life. Some people can learn from my experience. The episode as a result of the event is the HN episode. What happened was that I posted an article on HN, and the article got 0 traffic. When I encountered difficulties at work, I turned the problem into an episode. The episode “My Failure Designed for 1000 Users” is an example.

No brain activity

Some activities are done by me and can be completed without much effort. I have done it many times, and I don’t have to think about the course of the activity. While completing these activities, my mind can go elsewhere. I have taken out the garbage thousands of times. When taking out the garbage, I can consider different ideas. Sometimes I have to run back from taking out the garbage. I thought of a new idea, or I solved a problem while taking out the garbage.

Not in front of the screen

The screen can always stimulate people’s minds. Take away mental energy. Staying away from the screen helps to think deeply. Sometimes I make smoothies. I never bring my mobile phone into the kitchen. A few times, I thought of some good ideas while making smoothies. Making smoothies allows me to think better without forced simulation.

Comedians get material from everyday life. They have unique observations of events. Some comedians exaggerate events to make the story more interesting for their audience. Some comedians exaggerated the voice of a man. They may do this to add extra elements to the story.

Bill Burr gets a phrase and practices it on stage. The phrase can be anything, such as “Monkey Bread”. He has many opportunities to shape this bit. Every time he goes to a different city, he has the opportunity to do better. Every time he performs, he will learn the effective parts and the parts that need to be cut.

in conclusion

These are different ways to write and find episodes. These methods are not the only possible methods of plot creativity. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a framework for content creation for moderators.
