Importance: Substack sees this collaboration as a way to deepen its commitment to publish podcasts on its platform and as a case study of the possibilities of independent podcast networks.
Details of Booksmart Studio:
WNYC On the Media former producer Michael Vuolo and Murrow Award winner and NPR contributor Matthew Schwartz will launch Booksmart Studios.
Five new podcasts will be added at the beginning. This will include podcasts from media veterans such as John McWhorter and Bob Garfield. Axios reports that Garfield is Be fired In May, New York Public Radio was accused of violating its anti-bullying policy.
The first three podcasts will be: Exiled With Anna Khalid, Vocabulary valley With John McWatt, Bully forum With Bob Garfield. According to reports, they will be launched in July. Later this summer, two other podcasts will be launched: The direction of the sound Hosted by Chris Mandela, and Unprecedented Hosted by Michael Vuolo and Matthew Schwartz.
How can you listen to these podcasts?
According to Axios, podcasts will be available wherever people get podcasts. There will also be a public RSS feed. Subscribers will have access to additional content, such as complete interviews.
Subscribers can choose to pay $7 per month, $70 per year, or $200 per year to become a “founding member.” The founding members receive additional allowances.
Do we really need another podcast network to lock (most of) content behind the paywall? In my opinion, listeners can listen to Booksmart Studios podcasts from wherever they get podcasts, or they can listen to them via RSS. However, listeners who do not spend money will not get a complete podcast.
